Web enabled PLC rangesThe ModiconTSX PLC range is founded on the concept of open communications. Central to this strategy is Ethernet TCP/IP networking. All but the smallest PLCs in the range support ethernet communications and on-board webservers. The webservers are programmed using standard HTML editors like MS Frontpage or Macromedia Dreamweaver.

Why have a web enabled PLC? Isn't it just a gimick?
The advantages are many..
You can create a website in the PLC which displays daily production statistics, downtime analysis, etc.. and make this available across your intranet (or ethernet) to anyone who has a web browser (You can of course add security so that only those permitted can see the data.)
You can put fault recording on a web page for the maintenance department to access.
You could add a recipe manager for batch weighing systems, with network links and links to MS Excel or MS Access.
You could automatically generate email (or WAP) alarms to allert managers or maintenance personnel.
In the past, you needed an expensive SCADA system to allow you to get information like this easily available. Now, with a website inside the PLC, the PLC can provide all the data.
